The Quail motorsports gathering that is part of the Monterey Historics/Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance weekend is alive and well, according to the event's organizers. They say that although the owners of the Quail Lodge closed the hotel portion of the resort on Nov. 16, the golf course and clubhouse remain open and will continue to run the Quail Motorcycle Gathering on May 8, 2010, and the Quail, a Motorsports Gathering.
After three highly-regarded concept cars and a rather extended gestation period, the first of the new generation of Volvo cars, the XC90 SUV, has been unveiled. Designed – at least latterly – under the auspices of Thomas Ingenlath, who joined the sole remaining Swedish brand from VW as its design director in March 2012, the new Volvo XC90 is the first to sit on the company's new, modular SPA platform (Scalable Product Architecture, if you're interested). Ferrari has confirmed that the follow-up to the 599 Fiorano will debut at the Geneva motor show next month. The latest in Ferrari's long line of front-engine V12 GT cars, which stretches back to the 166 Inter of 1948, it's rumored to boast in the neighborhood of 700 hp. That's roughly double the power of the 365 GTB/4 pictured above, which Dan Gurney and Brock Yates famously used to cross the country in 35 hours and 54 minutes back in 1971.
